    I think there is a distinction between those who have chosen Marxist philosophy and would place the state above the family etc., and those who think that the government giving money to important causes is a nice thing to do. Even Crockett had to be convinced that about the latter (at least according to legend).
    I especially like how the quote builds up a long list then contrasts outrage in the last sentence.
